Matt Shaw begins his first season as assistant strength and conditioning coach at the University of Denver. Shaw serves as the strength coach for hockey, men’s and women’s soccer, and men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs.
Prior to coming to Denver, Shaw was responsible for men’s basketball, wrestling and men’s soccer teams at Boston University. He started his tenure at BU as a graduate assistant, managing the strength and conditioning for men’s soccer, wrestling and golf, and assisted with men’s basketball and men’s and women’s swimming and diving.
Before BU, Shaw interned at South Carolina during the summer of 2010, where he primarily assisted with implementation of the football team’s summer and preseason programs. He also worked closely with the men’s soccer and track & field teams on their respective summer programs.
Shaw has earned certifications from the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association, National Strength and Conditioning Association and the National Association of Speed and Explosion.
The St. Louis, Mo., native earned his bachelor’s degree in health sciences from BU’s Sargent College of Health and Rehabilitation with a minor in human physiology in January 2010. He also recently completed his master’s in physical education and coaching from BU’s School of Education in May 2011.
