Neck strength is a key component in the safety and performance of all athletes particularly in combat/collision sports. Using a research based approach, programming and periodization considerations are outlined for phases 1&2 of the program along with practical applications. Methods are demonstrated to coordinate full spinal stability and other strength and conditioning work to maximize performance.

Learning Objectives:

  • Provide data to support the role of neck strength in the reduction of concussion risk.
  • How to properly train the neck in order to reduce disc damage.
  • Addressing the cervical spine’s interaction with the thoracic and lumbar spine.
